It’s that time of the year! Spring is here, and Easter arrives soon thereafter. Everyone at Gainan’s Flowers and Garden Center is working hard to make sure that our Billings customers can capture the feeling of spring and the essence of Easter through our spectacular array of floral arrangements and gifts.
Easter is a unique holiday. Today, it’s recognized as one of the most important Christian holidays. Historically, the roots of this holiday date back to Ancient Pagan traditions and rituals. One theory regarding the origin of the word Easter suggests that it represents the combination of two Ancient Pagan spring festivals. “Ostara” was a festival celebrating the essence of spring and the new life it brings. “Ishtar” was the name of an Arabian sun festival.
There are also suggestions, especially in the United Kingdom, that the modern word Easter comes from “Eostre” or “Eastre,” the Ancient Anglo-Saxon goddess who was the “Mother” Goddess of the Northern Anglo-Saxon people.
Putting the historical roots of the holiday’s name aside, we know that the date of this holy Christian holiday is movable. That is because it follows the lunar cycle, in keeping with Jewish tradition where the yearly calendar follows the cycle of the moon. We also know that the events surrounding Jesus’ death and subsequent resurrection all happened during the Jewish Passover festival, a celebration during which Jews pay homage to God, in gratitude for freeing from slavery so they could leave Egypt.
Flowers are an important part of Easter tradition because they symbolize life and because they represent so much of what we associate with spring. The Pastel Perfection Easter Garden is a spectacular gift because we incorporate traditional Easter symbols. The pussy willow is the quintessential British Easter flower. Lilies have always been important Easter flowers. We chose calla lilies and Tiny Glow Asiatic lilies. We also include whimsical Rieger begonias, mums, and African violets.
Pastel Perfection
Easter Roses and Lilies are classically elegant. We took a simple clear glass vase and artfully arranged it with yellow roses and pink Oriental lilies. Then we add accents of curly willow and greenery to give this beautiful arrangement, a sophisticated touch. This bouquet will look spectacular at home, or in a church.
