Savoring the Last Weeks of Summer
With school starting this week and Labor Day right around the corner, it feels like summer is coming to a close even though the calendar tells me we still have a few weeks remaining. So, let’s savor the last of summer!
Go to the Farmer’s Market and get some fresh produce. Try some of those new recipes you see in your favorite magazines or that you keep pinning to your Pinterest boards. If you need some flavor inspiration, stop by our Downtown Store and check out our sauces and dressings from Stonewall Kitchens. That is really savoring summer.
Take advantage of the fresh berries and bake a berry pie. We have a book in our store called “Pie It Forward” with fun recipes. Loving the concept in the title! I send flowers to someone once in a while for no other reason than just because. I pay it forward at the coffee drive-thru once in a while and purchase the drink for the person in the car behind me. Both of these raise my own spirits as well as those of others, but can you imagine dropping off a pie at someone’s house just because? Such fun!
If baking a pie is intimidating, try this time-honored tool. A pie bird! The pie bird vents steam from the filling as the pie cooks, preventing the dreaded sticky mess of filling boiling over and the arched feet redirect excess moisture to keep the bottom crust from getting soggy.
If ice cream is more your style, invite some friends over to enjoy it with you. Have an ice cream social! Set the tone with some fun tableware like this set from Caspari. You can provide some of the toppings and let everyone bring their favorites and share. These sauces from King’s Cupboard are positively delicious!
We invite you to stop into Gainan’s Downtown and let us show you some of our favorite ways to savor summer.
